Matariki at Precinct 2022

15 July 2022

As we celebrated the first official Matariki holiday this year, we wanted to reflect on the line up of events and activations across all our precincts over the past month.

Our retail centre Commercial Bay welcomed Whānau Mārama back for 2022, celebrating Māori artists over the Matariki observation period. Facilitated by artist Jade Townsend, Whānau Mārama celebrated the mātauranga associated with Matariki throughout common spaces and a selection of stores at Commercial Bay. The free daily art tours from Season Gallery were enjoyed by many.

We partnered with Auckland Council and Ngāti Whātua for a projection onto the CPO (Britomart Station) highlighting the story of Matariki. This ran from 5:30pm daily.

We were honoured to feature Precious Clark as our speaker at the Canon Speaker Series event. She spoke on Embedding Māori values: the fine edge of appreciation and appropriation. The evening was a huge success with over 60 Club members in attendance.

If you visited our Wellington and Generator New Zealand buildings, you may have seen spaces filled with star fact decals to help educate and encourage recognition around the Matariki holiday and what the stars represent.

We hope you enjoyed and took some time to reflect, remember and celebrate new beginnings.
