Downtown Car Park Change of Ownership

Settlement for the sale of the Downtown Car Park, from Auckland Transport to Precinct, will be completed on 18 November 2025.

At that time, ownership and management of the car park will transfer to Precinct, including customers with current monthly parking contracts.

Auckland Transport and Precinct are working closely with car park customers to ensure a seamless transition. The car park will continue to operate as normal.

Precinct currently owns and operates the nearby Viaduct Car Park, and brings extensive experience and a strong track record in delivering high-quality parking facilities. Precinct will continue to operate the Downtown Car Park until it is required to close for development later next year (2026).

WHEN WILL THE SALE OF THE DOWNTOWN CAR PARK BE COMPLETED?

Settlement is scheduled to be completed on 18 December 2025, with Precinct taking over ownership and operations from 19 December 2025. After this date Auckland Transport will no longer manage the carpark . 

WILL THE DOWNTOWN CAR PARK CLOSE ON 19TH DECEMBER 2025

No. Ownership of the car park will transfer to Precinct on this date, and the car park will continue to operate as it does now until such time as it is required to close for development.  

WILL THERE BE ANY IMMEDIATE CHANGES FOR USERS?

No immediate changes are expected. Precinct will continue operating the Downtown Car Park (using Wilson Parking as its manager) until it is required to close for development.  

WILL PARKING RATES CHANGE AFTER THE TRANSFER?

There are no immediate plans for rate changes. Any future adjustments will be communicated.

WILL THERE BE ANY DISRUPTION TO CAR PARK ACESS AND OPERATIONS?

We do not anticipate any disruption to carpark access or operations during the ownership change.

WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR DEVELOPMENT?

The carpark will continue to operate as normal in the immediate term. We will continue to update car park users of any impacts from the future development which is expected to commence in late 2026. 

DOES PRECINCT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE OWNING CAR PARKS?

Yes, Precinct has extensive experience and a strong track record of owning and managing parking facilities, including the nearby Viaduct Car Park.  

Agreement Holder FAQ

WILL MY CURRENT CONTRACT REMAIN VALID UNDER THE NEW OWNER?

Yes, your existing contract will remain valid unless otherwise stated in your agreement.  

WILL THERE BE ANY CHANGES TO MY CONTRACT TERMS OR COSTS?

There are no automatic changes to your contract terms or costs due to the change of ownership. Any adjustments would only occur in accordance with the terms of your contract. 

DO I NEED TO SIGN NEW DOCUMENTS OR PROVIDE UPDATED DETAILS?

You don’t need to sign any new documents.  Your existing contract remains in place, with Precinct now taking the place of Auckland Transport as the counterparty to your contract. However, you will need to accept the terms in the Wilson Parking Customer Portal before providing updated payment instructions.  

HOW CAN I PROVIDE MY PAYMENT DETAILS TO PRECINCT?

On 15 December, Auckland Transport will share details (including relevant personal details) of your carparking agreement with us, which we will then share with Wilson Parking, who will manage the carpark on behalf of Precinct. Wilson Parking will use this information to set up your account in their Customer Portal.  

Once your details have been loaded by Wilson Parking, you’ll receive a link to the Customer Portal. From there, all you need to do is:  

Check your information – Make sure everything is correct.  

Accept Terms & Conditions – Standard to all Wilson Parking locations  

Add your payment details – This will complete your setup.  

WHAT DATA WILL BE TRANSFERRED ACROSS TO PRECINCT?

Only contract-related personal information will be transferred to Precinct and its car park manager Wilson Parking to ensure continuity of service. All data transfers will comply with privacy and security requirements.  

WHAT IF MY DETAILS ARE INCORRECT?

If you notice any errors when reviewing your information in the Wilson Parking Customer Portal, you’ll be able to update them directly within the portal or you can contact Wilson Parking for assistance.  

WHEN DO I NEED TO HAVE CONFIRMED MY PAYMENT DETAILS IN THE WILSONS PORTAL?

All details need to be entered and confirmed by 31 December 2025.   

HOW WILL BILLING AND PAYMENT PROCESSES CHANGE?

Billing will transition across to Precinct Properties from 1 January 2026. You will need to update your payment instructions with Precinct as outlined above prior to this date. If you currently have a direct debit set up with Auckland Transport, this will be cancelled after the December monthly payment has been made. 

Moving forward, monthly payments will be deducted either via Direct Debit or Credit Card (payment via credit card will incur a 2% surcharge).  The first payment will be deducted from your account immediately on updating your payment terms in the Wilson Parking Customer Portal and will cover 1 – 31 January 2026. 

From February 2026 onwards, payments will be deducted via direct debit or credit card on the 1st of each month (e.g. 1 February for the month of February), with an invoice being sent prior to the payment being deducted. 

CAN I TERMINATE MY AGREEMENT DUE TO THE CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP?

Please refer to the terms and conditions of your agreement with Auckland Transport, as these remain in effect despite any change in ownership. If you’re unsure or need further clarification, feel free to contact us.
